Renewable Energy: A Public Health Imperative

Increasing the use of renewable-sourced energy is a public health imperative and healthcare organizations are in a prime position to lead the way. We know that at every stage of traditional fossil fuels and the ever-more extractive fossil fuels, from extraction to burning, are a leading source of negative health impacts across the globe. The healthcare sector combats and mitigates the resulting health problems every day. Renewable sources of energy like solar and wind offer healthier, brighter, and more resilient communities. Today, we shine a light on healthcare industry leaders as they strive to sustain their legacy of caring for their…

Solar Tariff – We’re Not Slowing Down

Hello Rochester Area Friends,   Yesterday the President decided to impose a 30% tariff to the price of solar panels.  As you may guess, we at GreenSpark, Rochester's Fastest Growing Company, think this decision is remarkably shortsighted and detrimental to the economy and do not agree with anything that would slow us on our mission to tear down the barriers to clean energy by deploying solar, and doing our part to slow the effects of climate change right here in our community. The good news is this decision will have little to no impact on our growing solar community in…

Seneca Nation Leaders of Renewables, by Danny Resch

The Seneca Nation of Indians have always respected and relied on their land. They continue to hunt and fish in the wilderness, run and play on Lacrosse fields, and grow vegetables they call Deohako, "the life supporters.” More recently they have been powering their lives with clean renewable energy. They are people proud of the cultural, educational, and economic efforts they take to preserve their great heritage and beautiful homeland. The Nation of nearly 8,000 citizens has recently taken steps to continue this preservation work, a process GreenSpark was happy to help guide. Working with momentum from their 1.5 megawatt…

B Corporation Conference Recap

Written by Land Developer, Rachel Clar In early October, 550 members of the mission-based business movement gathered in Toronto for our guiding organization’s annual conference.   We are united in the belief that business can be used as a force for social good - to paraphrase Ghandi, that we must be the change that we want to see in the world.   This year’s theme was Inclusivity, as B-Lab is encouraging its worldwide membership to take on a specific call to action called The Inclusive Economy Challenge.   This challenge is defined by a voluntary commitment to work toward improving scoring on…

BOULDER, CO and WAITSFIELD, VT: Amicus Solar Cooperative, a purchasing cooperative of solar energy companies including GreenSpark Solar, and Amurtel, a non-profit working in disaster relief, are partnering to build Solar Outreach Systems (SOS) to bring dozens of desperately needed portable solar energy systems to power critical areas in Puerto Rico. Millions of Americans living in Puerto Rico (Boriqueñas) remain without power due to Hurricane Maria, many still without passable roads, access to clean drinking water, in need of basic supplies, and unable to receive medical care they would otherwise have with functional electricity.  At an 18-degree latitude, Puerto Rico…

Being Thankful

2017 has been a wonderful year for GreenSpark. We just celebrated being the #1 fastest growing company in 2017, we added 20 new employees to our roster, and we will have added 19 more megawatts of clean energy to the grid by the end of this year alone! We are so incredibly grateful for these accomplishments, among others. In addition to these wonderful things, we are grateful to have our very own National Guard, Ted Courtney, back in the U.S. and back with our GreenSpark team after serving on the ground in Afghanistan for the past year. Ted, thank you…

Canvassing: First Impressions by Zach Davis

I have only been with GreenSpark for a short time, but already, my outlook on grassroots organizing and going door to door has transformed. I think there is a stigma surrounding going door to door. You can picture it: the smooth-talking, greasy salesman just looking to rip you off and take your money. At least, that's what I always pictured when I thought of going door to door. I just pictured countless doors slamming in my face; people running and diving beneath their beds to hide when they saw me coming down the street. What I imagined, however, couldn't have been…
