GreenSpark is an independently owned, Rochester-based company committed to creating cost-effective, clean energy solutions.

We are passionate about making clean energy a reality in the present, not a hope for the future, and practicing what we preach. Solar, wind and a growing fleet of electric vehicles power our operations, and we’ve installed or scheduled over 350 MW of solar throughout the Northeast and beyond.

Our Story

Kevin Schulte, GreenSpark CEO, initially set out to be a Doctor. After having an immediate and visceral reaction to a pictogram of greenhouse gas emissions and the impact on our planet, he switched his major to renewable energy and environmental studies.

Kevin met George, GreenSpark’s COO, and Ernie, GreenSpark’s Director of Customer Service, in college and spent some time after graduating working for a wind turbine company. After realizing they could do it better, Sustainable Energy Development was incorporated in 2002 and quickly grew to become the largest distributed wind developers in the country.

As solar energy became more economical in the United States and the company realized it could make a more significant environmental impact faster, it added a solar division. In 2018, Sustainable Energy Development went all-in with solar energy and rebranded as GreenSpark Solar.

Today, Kevin, Ernie, and George lead one of Rochester’s Fastest-Growing companies and Top Workplaces while continuing to combat climate change and empower our community with fiercely local clean solar energy.

Kevin Schulte

Chief Executive Officer, Founder, Co-Owner

CEO since 2008, Kevin also serves on the boards of the Amicus Solar Cooperative and the New York Solar Energy Industries Association (NYSEIA). Under his leadership, the company has become one of Rochester’s fastest-growing businesses.

George McConochie

Chief Operating Officer, Founder, Co-Owner

George, since founding the company with Kevin in 2002, has been instrumental in the company's operational success and strategic growth.

Ernie Pritchard

Director of Customer Care, Founder

Ernie, one of GreenSpark’s founders, now directs customer care, ensuring that clients receive top-notch service and support across all service lines.

Dave Aust

Chief Financial Officer

Dave oversees GreenSpark Solar's financial operations, ensuring the company’s financial health, longevity, and sustainability.

Ciera Caldwell

Cierra leads GreenSpark’s People Department, ensuring we’re building a top-tier, values-driven workforce while enabling our employees to thrive and grow through career development initiatives.

Meaghann Schulte

Executive Director of Communications, Co-Owner

Meaghann drives the GreenSpark brand and is responsible for the company’s communications and public relations, helping to shape GreenSpark Solar’s public image and outreach efforts.

Matt Vanderbrook

Director of Commercial Origination, Co-Owner

Matt leads GreenSpark’s large-scale PV and storage development across the Northeast and is responsible for developing over 150 MW of renewable energy capacity.

Kerry O'Connor

Executive Director of C&I Operations and Workforce Development

Kerry ensures we deliver high-quality, efficient solutions for GreenSpark’s Commercial and Industrial customers and drives workforce development initiatives in our community to build the next generation of solar professionals.

Scott Abbett

Executive Director of Commercial Operations & Electrical Self-Performance, Co-Owner

Scott leads GreenSpark’s commercial operations and electrical self-performance teams, which are crucial in executing large-scale solar projects across the Northeast.
