Home Solar & Electrification

Electricity rates across the Rochester region continue to climb, leaving homeowners with higher and less predictable energy bills year after year.

Since 2002, GreenSpark Solar has helped homeowners take control of their energy costs and maximize savings through high-quality solar panels, battery storage, and EV charging solutions.

Take Control of Rising Energy Costs

Every month, your utility company decides how much you’ll pay for electricity. And when they decide to raise their rates, your bill goes up with them. New York electricity rates have climbed by roughly 25% since 2021.

Solar changes that. By generating your own power with a home solar energy system, you can:

Home Solar FAQs

How does home solar in Rochester work?

If you’re considering solar panels for your Rochester, NY home, here’s a look at how it works and saves you money:

Solar panels capture sunlight:

Solar panels are made of special materials (photovoltaic cells) that absorb the sunlight. We install them on your roof, or in your yard, where we can maximize the size of your solar array for the most sun exposure.

Sunlight is converted to electricity:

Tiny light particles, known as photons, break electrons free from their atoms to create a flow of direct current (DC) electricity.

Powering your home:

The DC electricity is converted to AC (alternating current) electricity through a device called an inverter. As your solar captures sunlight, the converted AC electricity will be used to power your home.

Utility credits:

If your solar panels produce more electricity than you need to power your home, the extra energy is sent to the grid. Your utility company (RG&E, NYSEG, or National Grid) tracks this  energy as credits tied to your account, through a mechanism known as net metering, which means that the utility owes you for a change!
