GreenSpark Solar Receives 5th Consecutive Top Solar Contractor Recognition in 2026

Rochester, New York — July 23, 2026 Solar Power World has released the 15th anniversary edition of the solar industry’s most recognized list of solar and energy storage installation companies. The 2026 Top Solar Contractors List was unveiled today, and GreenSpark Solar is among the featured companies, marking the company’s 5th consecutive Top Solar Contractor recognition.

This year, out of over 400 solar companies, GreenSpark Solar ranked:

  • #1 Solar Installer in New York State
    (2nd consecutive year ranking #1)
  • #1 Engineering, Procurement, & Construction (EPC) contractor in New York State
  • #7 EPC for community solar in the U.S.
(2nd consecutive year in the top 10)
  • #65 Top Solar Contractor overall

Solar installations in the United States recently surpassed 6 million. This growth is driven by experienced professionals who have spent decades advancing clean energy solutions across the country. The 2026 Top Solar Contractors List reflects that expertise, with more than 72% of listed companies having at least 10 years of experience in solar. With nearly 25 years in the renewable energy industry, GreenSpark Solar is honored to be among these long-standing organizations that have expanded access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy for all.

“Despite policy and supply hurdles, the U.S. solar market shows no signs of slowing down,” said Billy Ludt, managing editor of Solar Power World. “Well-run companies are those that can adapt to a changing industry, and we believe the 2026 Top Solar Contractors List features the strongest names in solar development, construction and installation.”

While the Top 5 states for installations in 2026 matched last year (California, Illinois, Texas, New York, Pennsylvania), less recognized states made big gains. Maryland, Ohio, and Wisconsin were particularly active markets for Top Solar Contractors in both the large-scale and residential sectors.

Headquartered in Rochester, NY, GreenSpark has installed solar, battery, and wind energy across NY, VT, MA, and PA since 2002. Since being named the #1 U.S. community solar Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor on Solar Power World’s 2025 list, the company has expanded EPC services into MD, CT, and IL, driven by new partnerships and opportunities.

Small-scale contractors bucked national assumptions by increasing their presence on the Top Solar Contractors List, with more listees performing work in the residential market than any previous year. The “installer” service category distinction grew 10% from last year, as the 2026 Top Solar Contractors class completed more installations in the non-utility market.

Similarly, due to federal headwinds and the sunsetting residential tax credits driving urgency, GreenSpark’s residential business gained traction,  resulting in a 42% increase in completed residential rooftop volume in 2025. Commercial rooftop installations also grew year-over-year, a trend the company expects to continue into 2026.

The Top Solar Contractors List is the most recognized annual listing of solar contractors in the United States. Companies on the Top Solar Contractors List are grouped and listed by specific service, market, and states by 2025 installed capacity (in kWDC).

"When we founded GreenSpark in 2002, we believed renewable energy could be a powerful force for change, even if we couldn't yet see the scale of what was possible. As we approach our 25th anniversary, it's incredibly rewarding to look back on how far our industry has come and the role we've had the opportunity to play in that progress. More than anything, we're grateful to be doing this work alongside so many incredible partners, customers, and peers who continue moving the clean energy transition forward."

Kevin Schulte, GreenSpark Solar CEO

GreenSpark is a mission-driven renewable energy company with over 150 full-time employees serving the Northeast, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic. In 2025, the company installed more than 61 MW of solar capacity for community solar sites, commercial institutions, and homeowners, with momentum accelerating in 2026. In the first six months of 2026 alone, GreenSpark has already surpassed its total 2025 installation volume by 36%.
