Powering Communities Through Long-Term Partnership

GreenSpark Solar and Kendall Sustainable Infrastructure (KSI) have added 2.9 MWdc to their growing portfolio with the completion of a community distributed generation project in the town of Huron, Wayne County, NY. As the developer, installer, and long-term O&M partner, GreenSpark delivered this high-performance tracker project in collaboration with financing partner and asset owner KSI — supporting local services, strengthening farm viability, and advancing clean energy in New York State.

Why Trackers? Maximizing Solar Output

This Huron, NY solar array uses single-axis tracker technology. Unlike fixed-tilt systems common in many solar farms, tracker systems follow the sun’s path throughout the day, generating more energy with fewer panels.

The increased production of tracker systems like this one helps boost yield and improve project economics for community solar sites where every kilowatt-hour matters.

Community & Economic Impact

Through a 15-year Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement, the project is expected to generate approximately $391,000 in payments to support the Town of Huron, Wayne County, and the North-Rose Wolcott School District. The agreement also included a one-time $50,000 Community Benefit Payment directly supporting local services.

Beyond the PILOT period, the project is anticipated to deliver an additional $63,000 in tax revenue over the following decade. The collective revenue strengthens municipal budgets while supporting long-term farming operations through reliable land hosting lease payments.

Alan Youngman, farmer and landowner of this solar site, commented on how solar hosting is already supporting their farming operations: “The payments from that solar farm are going to pay for our corn seed and bean seed this year.”
