This 2.2 MW solar array is located in Ontario, NY.

GreenSpark designed, developed, and installed the array, which will generate electricity for Home Leasing Affordable Housing Communities throughout the Greater Rochester area. The clean electricity generated is enough to cover the electricity for over 300 homes or charge nearly 250 million smartphones in just one year.

“The development of the solar farm made financial sense while also helping Home Leasing achieve its goal of environmental sustainability,” said Nelson Leenhouts, Chairman of Home Leasing.

Both Home Leasing and GreenSpark Solar are Certified Benefit Corporations (B Corp). Certified B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance people, planet, and profit, using business as a force for good.

This project was also recently discussed on an episode of Connections with Evan Dawson. You can listen to that episode here.

“Home Leasing will not build another building that isn’t all electric. We are doing solar on the roof, geothermal and air source heat pumps… The affordable housing industry is trying to achieve a lot of goals, and one of those goals is to address climate change and make sure the buildings that we build today are not going to contribute to the problem of climate change.”
