Town of Geneva
Finger Lakes Municipality Offsets Its Electricity Costs with Solar
El Town of Geneva, located in the heart of New York State’s Finger Lakes region, has been steadily advancing clean energy initiatives for years. Most notably, the town earned recognition as a Clean Energy Community through the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA).
With support from state and federal incentives, the town partnered with GreenSpark Solar to take the next step in its climate leadership journey — installing an 85.65 kWdc ground-mounted solar array in June 2025.
This project, awarded to GreenSpark through a competitive RFP process, is a cornerstone in the town’s broader sustainability strategy.
Town of Geneva Solar Project Snapshot
- Location: Town of Geneva, NY
- System Size: 85.65 kWdc ground mount
- Completion Date: June 2025
- Equipment: QCELLs modules + Iron Ridge racking (U.S. manufacturers)
- Annual Savings: ~$10,000

Maximizing Incentives & Savings for Municipal Solar
The project received a $21,240 NYSERDA grant as a direct credit toward installation costs, and it is eligible for the 30% federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which is valued at $83,792 through direct pay.
These commercial solar tax credits and incentives made solar an even more cost-effective solution for the town, allowing taxpayer dollars to stretch further while investing in long-term energy independence.
With the new array in place, the Town of Geneva offsets all municipal electricity usage and saves an estimated $10,000 annually — creating a predictable, stable source of savings that benefits the entire community.
