Solar Safety for First Responders

You may have noticed a neighbor, friend, or family member with a shiny and energy efficient addition to their roof. As more and more solar photovoltaic systems are installed across our community, country, and the world, it’s important to be cognizant of the impact solar will have. One area in which we see a huge impact is on the first responders that help to protect our communities, which is why we’ve worked with a number of local organizations to put together a seminar to help first responders to understand how solar systems operate and function.

As members of the Greater Rochester community, we recognize the value of our local first responders and consider their safety a number one priority for us. We encourage any and all local first responder organization to join us for an hour and a half as we cover the types of equipment and technologies being used to install solar projects, how to respond and de-energize solar electric systems, solar panel technologies including solar shingles, inverters and micro inverter technology, roof loading, permitting, NEC code compliance, roof access points and ventilation requirements, rapid shutdown technology, and more.

Educating our first responders about the benefits of solar as well as the prevention steps to take in the unfortunate case of an emergency, helps our entire community in taking actionable steps towards a more environmentally-friendly future.

Our first responder training wouldn’t be possible without PV Sales Associate, Shawn Lessord, who also happens to be the son of a fire chief. While Shawn is new to GreenSpark, he isn’t new to the solar industry as he brings twenty years of solar experience to the NY team.
